Pandya stars as India defeat Bangladesh in T20 clash

India powered their way closer to the T20 World Cup semi-finals with a commanding 50-run victory over Bangladesh. The match, crucial for both teams’ tournament hopes, saw India post a formidable total of 196/5 after being put in to bat by Bangladesh.

Led by opener Rohit Sharma’s explosive start, India raced to 29/0 in just three overs before Sharma fell for 23 off Shakib al Hasan’s bowling, marking Shakib’s 50th T20 World Cup wicket.

Virat Kohli then took charge, smashing 37 runs off 29 balls before Tanzim Hasan Sakib dismissed him and Suryakumar Yadav in quick succession. Rishabh Pant added a quickfire 36, but it was Hardik Pandya’s blistering 50 off 27 balls that propelled India to their imposing total.

In response, Bangladesh faced an uphill battle from the outset, with Litton Das and Tanzid Hasan providing brief resistance. However, regular wickets hampered their progress, with Kuldeep Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah dismantling the middle order.

Najmul Hossain Shanto’s valiant 40 off 32 balls offered a glimmer of hope, but it was snuffed out by Arshdeep Singh and Bumrah’s late strikes.

Ultimately, Bangladesh fell short, managing only 146/8 in their allotted overs, handing India their fifth consecutive victory in the tournament. With this win, India remains unbeaten, having previously defeated Ireland, Pakistan, USA, and Afghanistan, with their match against Canada washed out due to rain.

The win not only solidifies India’s position at the top of the Super Eights table but also underscores their status as strong contenders for the T20 World Cup title. Meanwhile, Bangladesh’s hopes of progressing further in the tournament hang in the balance following this defeat, compounded by their earlier loss to Australia in the Super Eights stage.

India will look to maintain their winning momentum in their upcoming matches, while Bangladesh faces a must-win situation in their remaining fixtures to stay alive in the competition. As the T20 World Cup action intensifies, all eyes will be on India to see if they can continue their impressive form and secure a spot in the semi-finals.
